Better Homes & Gardens Aromatherapy Essential Oil Infused Wax Melts Reviews 2022

This is a review of the new Better Homes & Gardens Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy wax melts from 2022, which come in 2.75 oz. round cardboard containers that are good for the environment.

These cost $3.33, and each box contains 10 round wax discs embossed with the letter "B". You'll need to melt at least 2 discs at a time (2 is enough), because each disc is only .275 oz., a bit less than what is needed for the scent to disperse properly, and will result in it burning off too quickly. If you usually melt 2 cubes from a standard 2.5 oz. clamshell, you can probably get by with melting just 2 or 3 of these discs instead of 4. If you're used to using just 1 cube from a standard 6-pack, these end up costing $4 in the long run since you only get 5 melts out of the container. But if you're used to using 2 cubes from a standard 6-pack, these end up costing $2 in the long run.

These Better Homes & Gardens wax melt scents are part of an aromatherapy collection that includes matching essential oils, and candles too, I believe.

I love these scents. They're very pleasant, and many are relaxing spa type scents, most of which have strong throw. Although I love the environmentally friendliness of the cardboard containers (and the muted, relaxing colors), the shelf life may not be so good. You'll want to finish using all the wax melts in the container within a few weeks or months, as the scent will dissipate because the package is not airtight.

Bergamot & Sage
Sparkling bergamot, touches of wild sage and luminous green tea accents shimmer with musk and soft woods.
Sparkling Bergamot, Wild Sage, Green Tea, Soft Woods, Sweet Musk
Zesty, savory, slightly sour herbal scent that smells a bit like a salad, with notes of sage, rosemary, maybe a smidgen of pine, and possibly a barely detectable note of bergamot that almost gives it a cologney note (but it's not a cologne scent at all). It's not sweet at all, despite the musk note. I like it, although it's a bit too savory and zesty for me. I believe it's the same as Better Homes & Gardens Bergamot & Sage from 2019.

Centered
Citrus Greens, Verbena, Geranium, Cardamom, Powdery Tonka, Glowing Amber
A spa scent that smells like sandalwood, lemon verbena, warm amber, a hint of floral (rose?), and maybe a smidgen of ginger. It's a nice, relaxing scent, even though it doesn't contain lavender. It's a little sweet, but not perfumey. Very nice. Looking at the notes, there's the verbena, I'm not getting cardamom but that could be that smidgen of ginger, there's the amber, and geranium is the floral. I really like this scent!

Chill
Flowering Lavender, Crushed Thyme, White Sage, Cedarwood, Amber, Tonka Bean
I'm getting lavender, cedar, a bit of amber, a hint of coconut, a smidgen of musk, and maybe a touch of garden mint due to a tiny bit of a sinus clearing effect. It's sweet but not perfumey or flowery sweet. I like it! Looking at the notes, no mint, but maybe sage and thyme have that same sinus clearing effect. Also, no coconut, but I wasn't sure about that note anyway.

Energized
Green hemp leaf, aromatic cypress, and sequoia redwood all complemented by wild eucalyptus and citrus-infused sage touched by blonde wood elements, ambered musk, and balsamic fir. Top: green, herbal, ozone; Middle: herbal, hempseed, cypress, sage; Bottom: fir balsam, wood, amber
Cypress, Sequoia Redwood, Wild Eucalyptus, Citrus Sage, Blond Woods, Ambered Musk
Fantastic woodsy, smoky pine and eucalyptus scent with a bit of sinus clearing effect. The pine is warm, rich, slightly salty, smoky and sprucey, but with a little bit of that biting pine note. It also has a little bit of a savory herbal note like sage and/or rosemary, and I think a tiny bit of lavender. I love it! Looking at the notes, the only one I'm not getting the musk, as this scent is not sweet at all.

Jasmine & Ylang Ylang
Jasmine Petals, Ylang Ylang, Leafy Greens, Sensual Musk
On cold sniff I get jasmine, honeysuckle, and a bit of orange blossom, but with a very slightly sour note in the background. When melted, however, that sour, metallic note takes over, and it smells a bit like fermented wine with just a hint of the jasmine in the background. I'm sure that's supposed to be the Ylang, but it smells nothing like Ylang. This is the same scent as Better Homes & Gardens Aromatherapy Jasmine & Ylang Ylang from 2019.

Lavender & Chamomile
Lavender, Herbal Greens, Jasmine, Chamomile, Smooth Woods
A nice herbal lavender scent, like lavender mixed with a bit of rosemary. It's barely sweet all, actually a bit more savory, but if you like sweet lavender scents you could blend it with a vanilla, perfumey or floral scent. Or you could go the opposite direction and blend it with lemongrass for a fantastic spa scent.

Lemon & Mandarin
Citrus lemon, sweet mandarin and juicy orange sparkling with crisp herbs and bright greens. Top: lemon, mandarin, aldehydic; Middle: orange, herbal, green; Bottom: herbal.
Brilliant Lemon, Sweet Mandarin, Orange, Herbs, Bright Greens
Bright citrusy lemon, lemon verbena, a bit of lemongrass, and a hint of mint (garden mint or eucalyptus) with a fairly strong sinus clearing effect. It's an invigorating spa type scent. Looking at the notes, I'm not getting orange, and I'm surprised I don't see verbena or lemongrass, since the lemon is indeed one or both of those notes rather than straight lemon. Also, no mint, but maybe that's part of the "herbs" note. This is the same as Better Homes & Gardens Aromatherapy Lemon & Mandarin from 2021.

Lemongrass & Ginger
Fresh-Cut Lemongrass, Verbena, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Sparkling Ginger
A nice energizing spa scent that is indeed lemongrass and ginger, with a bit of lemon verbena, and maybe a hint of an herbal note. I like it! Looking at the notes, they're spot on except for the lavender, which I don't smell. This is the same as Better Homes & Gardens Aromatherapy Lemongrass & Ginger from 2018.

Lime & Eucalyptus
Crushed Eucalyptus, Refreshing Mint, Lavender, Bergamot
Garden mint, eucalyptus (but not a piney eucalyptus), and a hint of lavender that makes this a perfect, relaxing spa scent to melt if you have a cold, due to the intense mintiness and sinus clearing effects. It's only a tiny bit sweet, and very similar to ScentSationals Zen (but that scent is very slightly sweeter, not as minty, has a teensy bit of a laundry note, and doesn't have the lavender note). This is the same as Better Homes & Gardens Aromatherapy Lime & Eucalyptus from 2018, although very, very slightly different (due to difference in batches). Strangely, there's no lime in the scent notes, and I don't detect lime, despite lime being in the scent name.

Refreshed
Green Aloe, Geranium Petals, Watery Cucumber, Soft Mint, Fresh Ozone, White Woods
Watery aloe or cucumber with garden mint and an "icy" sinus clearing note. It might have a teensy bit of grassy floral in the background, although it's just a little bit sweet. That subtle sweetness smells like honey. This scent is a little bit similar to the Lime & Eucalyptus scent, but not as minty, and no eucalyptus or lavender notes. And that scent is more "savory" than this one. This scent is kind of bland, but quite pleasant, and might work well as a mixer to tone down overly sweet florals. Looking at the notes, they're spot on.

Restored
Breezy orange blossoms blended with bright orange zest and fresh clementine and sweet apricot and fresh picked quince infused with citrus bark and tender musk. Top: orange, clementine; Middle: orange, apricot, fruit; Bottom: orange blossom, musk, wood.
Orange Blossom, Clementine, Sweet Apricot, Citrus Bark, Cedarwood, Soft Musk
Fantastic scent of orange, possibly a hint of lemon, a tiny bit of a woodsy note, and maybe a hint of pine. I like it! Looking at the notes, no pine, but I guess cedar is the wood. I'm not getting apricot, which smells like peach. And although it's an orange scent, I'm not getting orange blossom, which smells more like neroli or even a touch of honey.

Sandalwood & Vanilla
Ambered Sandalwood, Vanilla Bean, White Cedar, Citrus Sparkle
This is truly a vanilla and sandalwood scent. I'm getting a vanilla cookie note first, then sweet cedar, milky sandalwood, a tiny bit of tobacco, maybe a smidgen of cinnamon, and possibly a barely detectable fruity note (peach?) way in the background. Looking at the notes, they're spot on! Fantastic scent! Based on the scent name and notes, this should be the same as Better Homes & Gardens Aromatherapy Sandalwood & Vanilla from 2019, but I have that scent and compared them, and they're similar but not exactly the same. The older scent has the sandalwood and vanilla notes, but also has a strong oud note, and a bit of patchouli, both of which this scent doesn't have.

Strong
Watermint, Peppermint, Wild Spearmint, Green Aloe, Bergamot, Jasmine, White Tea
A fantastic herbal scent that smells like aloe or cucumber, apple, floral, and cedar and/or sandalwood. Like 40% aloe, 25% apple, 20% floral, and 15% cedar or sandalwood. But it also has a very strong nasal clearing effect which I'm sure is garden mint, but I only smell that from a foot away and I'm not getting any minty notes in the room. I adore this scent! Looking at the notes, lots of mint, I'm definitely not getting spearmint at all, no bergamot (as it's not a cologne type scent), and no tea. But there's no apple in the notes and I'm sure I smell that.

Uplifted
Sparkling verbena, sweet lemon, and tart grapefruit warmed with soft poppy petals, pure lily, and the essence of sun-kissed jasmine finished with sugared musk. Top: citrus, grapefruit, lemon, green; Middle: verbena, poppy, jasmine; Bottom: floral, musk
Verbena, Sweet Lemon, Grapefruit, Poppy Petals, Lily, Sugared Musk
Fantastic salty, rich lemon scent with a bit of a zesty lemon rind note. It reminds me a little of Better Homes & Gardens Meyer Lemon Basil, but that scent was more salty and savory, and this scent is more lemony. It has a tiny bit of spa vibe, so I think it also contains lemon verbena (but no lemongrass, as it doesn't have that citronella note). It also might have something else in the background like sandalwood or amber (although it's not a sweet scent). It sounds like my description of the Lemon & Mandarin scent, but they're different; comparing them side by side, this scent is quite salty with a zesty, almost savory note, while Lemon & Mandarin is more citrusy and has the lemongrass note that makes it more of a spa scent. Looking at this scent's notes, I'm not getting any florals.
