November 17, 2023
This is a review of ScentSationals Christmas/Holiday Walmart wax melts for 2023 (with red labels).
These can be found at Walmart (on their website - see the "magnifying glass" icon for each scent - and some Walmart stores), and some can be found on the ScentSationals website.
Believe!
Hedgerow blackberries, juicy currant, and red cherry gently spiced with aromatic bay, freshly ground cinnamon, grated clove bud, and a splash of apple brandy. Top: blackberry currant, cherry, apple, citrus; Middle: tart mixed berry accord, bay, cinnamon; Bottom: bay, cinnamon, clove, allspice
Cranberry, which is a little tart, but the tartness is tempered with sweetness without being overly sweet. I'm also getting a hint of cinnamon, and possibly a smidgen of apple. Like apple-cranberry juice or cider. It's nice and refreshing!
Blackberry French Toast
Top: strawberry, mixed berry jam, orange zest; Middle: coconut water, cinnamon, maple sugar; Bottom: vanilla bean, pastry crust, sweet cream
A super rich, buttery, slightly salty bakery scent with raspberry notes and a distinct pie crust note. It's yummy! Looking at the notes, I'm not getting coconut or cinnamon at all.
Candy Cane Cookies
Top: peppermint, cheesecake; Middle: peppermint, vanilla, white chocolate, dark chocolate; Bottom: cookie crumb
Incredibly delicious scent of rich chocolate with a peppermint note. Looking at the notes, I'm not getting cheesecake or cookie crumb notes, although it does have a milky richness that could indeed be the cheesecake. It might be the same as last year's
Candy Cane Ice Cream, although the notes are different; sniffing them side by side, I can't tell the difference, and the wax is the exact same color. It's different from last year's Better Homes & Gardens
Candy Cane & Cream, which was much more pepperminty.
Christmas Dreams
Top: orange, currant; Middle: pomegranate, strawberry, cassis, plum; Bottom: patchouli, musk
A fruity scent, but I can't figure out what kind of fruit. I think I smell strawberry, maybe also pomegranate, and possibly a smidgen of wood somewhere in the background. I like it. Looking at the notes, what I think is wood I guess is patchouli, but I'm not getting any patchouli notes per se. I'm not sure if I smell the orange either.
Christmas Morning
Top: French clove, Indonesian nutmeg; Middle: Sri Lanka cinnamon, steamed milk, buttercream; Bottom: creamy vanilla, caramel sugar
A super sweet scent that smells like cinnamon and nutmeg on a base of milky eggnog. It's fantastic!
Cranberry Buttercream
Sun-ripened blackberries, sweet blueberries, and hints of juicy black raspberry layered with a deliciously rich vanilla buttercream sweetened with pure cane sugar
This scent smells like the name suggests: cranberries blended into sweet, rich vanilla buttercream. But I think I also detect blackberry and raspberry. Interestingly, there are no cranberry notes in this scent, but I'm sure I'm getting a smidgen of tartness from cranberry. I like it!
Eucalyptus Snow
A refreshing outdoor woodsy scent with top notes of cool eucalyptus surrounded by evergreen balsam trees covered with freshly-fallen snow. Topped with frosted vanilla and rosemary for a clean, brisk atmosphere of the great outdoors. Top: caramel, eucalyptus, fir needle; Middle: frozen vanilla, rosemary, sugar crystals; Bottom: Texas cedarwood, white balsam, cashmere woods
A fantastic smoky scent with a tiny bit of pine, maybe a hint of sage and/or rosemary, and a smidgen of a milky note in the background. Looking at the notes, the milkiness is probably the vanilla, which I think I do detect a tiny bit. And I'm not getting any caramel notes whatsoever (that may be a misprint).
Farmhouse Apple Tart
Fluffy buttermilk pancakes layered with enticing pumpkin, rich apple butter, and fresh orchard apples spiced with grated cinnamon and a drizzle of warm maple syrup. Top: apple, pumpkin, cinnamon; Middle: apple, pumpkin, spice, buttermilk pancake accord; Bottom: spice, maple, buttermilk pancake accord
This smells like apple pie filling with a generous amount of cinnamon. Yummy! Looking at the notes, I'm not getting anything that smells like pancakes or maple syrup.
Frosted Forest
Top: ruby frost apple, bergamot, orange, pear, lemon-cypress, alpine eucalyptus, blue rosemary; Middle: downy jasmine, crocus in the snow, white lavender; Bottom: hinoki wood, cedar leaf, tonka bean, white musk
This is primarily a lavender scent on cold sniff, but I'm also getting a hint of eucalyptus and maybe raw wood, although it's not a harsh eucalyptus type scent and has a bit of softness. It's not a sweet, perfumey lavender either; in fact, it's only a tiny bit sweet. Melted, I get a bit more of the eucalyptus than on cold sniff. There may also be a smidgen of lemon in the background. It has a little bit of a medicinal note that I don't care for, but it's still a nice scent. Looking at the notes, I don't detect fruit, floral or musky notes at all.
Mistletoe Magic
Top: juicy raspberry, mirabelle plum, lime zest; Middle: hibiscus petals, star jasmine, juniper berry; Bottom: fir balsam, monterey pine, sweet vanilla
This is mostly a fruity scent, but I can't figure out what kind of fruit, maybe cranberry mixed with some other berry notes. I think I'm also getting a bit of pine, and maybe a touch of lemon. It's an interesting scent, but not one of my favorites. Looking at the notes, there's the berries, pine, and lime (what I thought was lemon). I'm not getting any floral or vanilla notes.
Nordic Sleigh
Top notes of arctic apple, verbena, chilled orange and birch water that intermingles with the outdoor scented core of Nordic berry, iceberg rose and pine needle, anchored with fresh, cooling notes of white cedar, benzoin resin, vanilla and musk
Fruit (not sure what kind... cranberry?), balsam, pine, and maybe a smidgen of vanilla?
Salted Caramel Cocoa
Freshly whipped, vanilla-infused buttercream folded over creamy tones of rich, all-butter caramel sauce spinkled with savory sea salt, sweet cane sugar, and a decadent hint of pure cocoa. Top: sea salt, caramel; Middle: sea salt, caramel, vanilla; Bottom: buttercream, whipped vanilla cream, caramel, toffee, cocoa
This smells exactly the same as
Salted Caramel Buttercream. In fact, the notes are pretty much the same, except for the addition of cocoa in this scent, which I don't detect at all. I'm not getting any chocolate notes. It's a great scent though, and super strong!
Santa's Bake Shop
Top: shaved coconut, orange zest, brown sugar; Middle: fresh ginger, clove, warm cinnamon, creamy butter; Bottom: vanilla extract, maple syrup, coconut cream
I can't figure out what I'm smelling... brown sugar, maple, a hint of coconut, maybe a smidgen of cinnamon. It's a bakery scent, but not a cookie scent, per se. It's quite nice.
Snow Way
Top: iced peppermint, chilled apple, sparkling bergamot; Middle: star anise, blue eucalyptus, frosted lavender; Bottom: snow covered cedar, raw amber, musk
Fantastic smoky scent with lavender and a strong nasal clearing effect which is probably eucalyptus. It's not a woodsy smokiness, but more of a chilly "winter" type smokiness. I love this scent! Looking at the notes,I'm not getting apple or anise at all.
